Me to You addresses the issue of “Period Poverty.” We provide sustainable, menstrual hygiene supplies such as reusable sanitary pads, underwear and sanitary pad sewing kits, along with menstrual health education to needy and communities, primarily in Kenya and Uganda.
Me to You aims to empower women and girls to manage their menstruation without shame, stigma, or exploitation.
With menstrual hygiene resources, women and girls can increase: their confidence, healthy behaviours, as well as their school and work attendance. Overall, their quality of life improves.
UNESCO estimates that 1 in 10 school-age girls on the African continent do not attend school during menstruation.
In rural Western Kenya, 2/3 of girls and young women aged 13–29 using sanitary pads reported receiving them from sexual partners. School girls, particularly a concentration of 15-year-old girls, reported exchanging sex for money to purchase pads
Research in Kenya revealed that 65% of women and girls can’t afford sanitary napkins.
